It's a snow day in Charlottesville!
I can't believe that's it's mid-February and this is the first time there's been any legitimate snow, but it's true. I'm of the mindset that if it's going to be cold, there should at least be snow, right?! Just being cold by itself is completely pointless. Who's with me!?
In celebration of the beautiful blast that has hit our town, I'm publishing one of my favorite shoots to date that I've been hoarding for an occasion such as this. Back at Thanksgiving, there was a brief but fabulous single day of snow that hit Northern Va. Having never photographed a session in the snow before, (remember how I started my business in Hawaii? Yea, no snow there.)
Luckily, I was snowed in with a ridiculously good-looking couple from Michigan, so they were unfazed by the wintery blast. These two also happen to be some of the most lively and loving people I know-- no bias... (full disclosure-- they are in fact my brother and sister-in-law) I grabbed my gear and a few stray props, bundled up like Ralph from A Christmas Story, and we headed out for our impromptu photoshoot.
A few pretty wild behind-the-scenes details you mind find interesting about this shoot:
1. It was about 15 degrees outside. Do they look cold? Do they look miserable? I argue that no, they look like rockstars.
2. We shot for approximately 20 minutes. Yep, all of this in 20 minutes. No fooling around when it's 15 degrees outside.
3. This location is a walking path next to a major road on the side of a subdivision.
a. Beauty is everywhere. You don't have to have Hawaiian sunsets and breathtaking backdrops to create breathtaking photos.
b. Great images are about the connection, the expression, the people. Locations are the supporting role. Snow does help with the magic factor though.
I hope you cozy up with a cup of hot coffee, a warm blanket, maybe call your furry friend to curl up beside you, and enjoy this winter couples session on our snowy Charlottesville day!
And for those of you not in Charlottesville, well, I hope you enjoy it too. ;-)
