I always love clients who are willing to work outside the box and trust me when I say, "I think we should shoot in that overgrown loading dock behind the restaurant."
That's basically what happened with Zack and Joelle. The last session they did together was in the summertime with cool colors and a bright, natural look. Naturally, I suggested we take this shoot in the complete opposite direction to give them variety. They just recently moved to Charlottesville and rightfully wanted to use these pictures to capture this stage in their lives. What better place to shoot than the quaint and iconic downtown mall?!
We had a blast tooling around the outskirts of the mall and stopping randomly along the way to shoot when something interesting caught my eye. (I seriously have "Ooh, SHINY!" syndrome when I'm in my zone on a shoot.) Finally, we ended up grabbing some warm coffees from Java Java and shooting beside the beautiful brick walls as the sun began to set.
Zack later told me that when Joelle saw this next image she got so excited and said,
"Oh my gosh she totally gets it, > this is my life!> "
That comment seriously made my day because that's what it's all about.
A huge thanks to Zack and Joelle for being so easy-going and open-minded for this urban, winter shoot. Their sweet connection was such a joy to photograph and shines through in every image.
When was the last time you were photographed with your sweetheart? If the only professional pictures you have together are of you in a white dress, it's time to start thinking about a session! :-)
