While families and kids are the main focus of Firefly, every now and then I'm introduced to a couple who I feel is a great fit and I leave my little portrait circle to venture into the world of wedding photography. From our early communication last summer, I immediately knew Brittany and Mike would be an awesome couple to work with, and luckily, they wanted to work with me too! Since they live about 2 hours from Charlottesville, we did all our planning prior to the event via facetime, but their laid-back attitudes and playful approach to the day came across so easily and made me even more excited to capture their event.

On May 14, 2016, the weather forecast was calling for storms. In the late afternoon... starting about the same time as their ceremony. When I arrived to capture the preparation, however, Brittany was so calm, getting her hair and make-up done with a smile as she chatted with her girls and set worry aside. The boys downstairs were all drinks and jokes, a character-filled and close-knit crew for sure. As the schedule and plans began shifting to accommodate for the rain, I was so impressed with how the whole bridal party supported the bride and groom, how relaxed everyone was about the changes in plans, and how ready they all were to jump in and make it work.

The storm did hit, and as the music began to play for the bridal party's entrances, the raindrops clicked on the windows against a cloudy sky as family and friends gathered in the intimate reception room with joy still palpable and excitement fresh. It was a beautiful ceremony with love at the center, and the couple was joined with rings and a kiss to seal the deal.

Halfway through cocktail hour, the rain cleared and sun peaked out to allow us some gorgeous portrait time with the bridal party. Again, despite all the last-minute changes and timeline shifts, this group was up for anything-- in 30 minutes we cleared muddy fields and crossed bridges, creating memories alongside the photographs.

Once we hit the reception, dinner, speeches, and special dances unfolded against the dewey evening glow and warm summer air. Guests ventured out to the bride and groom's custom corn hole boards and nibbled on their unique donut cake! That's right, no cake for these trendsetters-- just delicious, perfectly portioned donuts and an adorable popcorn bar! The drinks flowed and the dance floor opened up for a night full of laughter and love overflowing.
