This mom first contacted me several months before her due date for baby #2 with very specific ideas for her maternity session vision. I was so happy that she felt we were a good fit because I love when people come with ideas and are really excited about crafting something special. Though living and working in northern VA, we decided initially to shoot at Wintergreen because it had significance as a future home site. However, as we talked more about the look she wanted -- very airy, light filled, and full of that dreamy summer glow we photographers love to capture at sunset -- I started to feel like Wintergreen wasn't the best option. While it's a great spot for sweeping views or deep forests scenery, we weren't going to get the summer-y, open field and warm light up there in the mountains. Luckily, she trusted my judgement and we switched to one of my local favorites -- Ivy Creek Nature Area in Charlottesville -- which ended up being the perfect spot.
Since she lives out of the area, all our correspondence prior to the shoot was over the phone and email, so it was wonderful to finally meet and talk with this sweet woman throughout the evening. She shared that she her first born, a girl, is a good deal older and things are much different these days as they prepare to welcome their little boy. She wanted to really celebrate this pregnancy and have some beautiful photographs to commemorate the season of life and share on thank you cards for her showers.
It was a sticky, hot night the evening of our shoot and being about 7 months pregnant, this mama was a great sport about it. Between the beautiful gowns she chose, the gorgeous light, and our glowing mama-to-be, this shoot is one that continues to warm my heart. Enjoy a few favorites from our time together!
