One of my favorite things about being a photographer is getting to connect with new families and glimpse into their story. This couple has an incredible one.
I came to know them after photographing the groom's sister, Sarah, and her husband after they welcomed their new baby boy. It's such a honor to be involved in not just one, but several milestones for a family that I just couldn't pass up the opportunity when they came to me about photographing this wedding.
Neal and Eunice met through Eunice's aunt over social media-- Eunice was teaching in Dubai but interested in moving to the states so her aunt put her in touch with her colleague, Neal, so she could start to make friends in America. He just happened to be single and handsome as well. After embarrassingly apologizing for her aunt's forwardness, they started chatting, and to their surprise, completely clicked. Neal went to visit her in Dubai a few months later and when he came back, told his family he wanted to marry her. The next time he went to see her, he took a ring. The rest is history!
Neal and Eunice were married in a small, ornate chapel in downtown Leesburg, (The Church of Incarnation) on October 22, 2016. Unfortunately, two of the most important guests, Eunice's parents, were not able to make the trip from the Philippines. To honor them, Eunice included a picture of her parents wrapped around her bouquet and another framed on a table near the alter where they said their vows. The ceremony included a full Catholic mass and afterwards, we had about 2.5 hours before the reception, which met lots of fun and beautiful portrait time with the happy couple and their small wedding party of family and best friends.
Because the couple did most of their planning long distance (Eunice only moved to America about 1 month before the big day!), we didn't have a chance to meet prior to the wedding, and simply did our planning via email and skype. Having this extended portrait time with them was such a treat because I was really able to see their love and personalities shine through as they became more and more comfortable throughout the evening. They are both relatively shy individuals, but it was so easy to see that they brought out the best in one another, making each other laugh, sharing in tender moments, and just exuding this genuine happiness at finally being together and spending forever that way.
At the park we went to to take portraits, there was this beautiful house that simply hosted some office spaces and was closed for the weekend. Eunice was giddy about doing some shots there because it was so "American." Seriously, they are the cutest.
The reception took place at the Lightfoot restaurant in downtown Leesburg. It was a stunning venue with old hollywood touches and beautiful historic touches. Neal and Eunice included lots of homey and handmade touches for their guests with an autumn color palette. One of the most special moments was during cocktail hour when Eunice was able to skype her parents into the excitement and walk them around the venue with her new husband. After dinner and toasts, this crew hit the dance floor with a fierceness I hadn't seen since my own wedding - these people were not afraid to party and I LOVED IT. So much joy and happiness shared in this night. Congratulations, you two lovebirds! May your futures be full of love and adventure together <3
