Featured: Sweet Family Session on the Downtown Mall

Whenever a family reaches out for suggestions about where to have their session, I start by asking them “where do you like to spend time?”

This sweet crew is getting ready to move at the end of the month, so when they started reflecting on what they wanted their photos to really say beyond just looking pretty, they realized that they wanted to capture a piece of the city where they started their family.

  • The brick streets they roamed pushing a stroller with one hand and a gelato in the other.

  • The concert venues they sat cozied up together for date nights.

  • The feeling of love they felt they grew here and the memories they made.

Featured: Home for the Holidays with the Pagels family

Between these three family units, the patriarchs + two daughters and their families, each one has moved into a different home or state in the past year. Both sisters had babies within a few weeks of each other, they lost a family dog, both husbands started new jobs, grandparents entered retirement, and the oldest grandchild is hitting toddler life full steam ahead.

Featured: A Fall Family Session Where Everything Isn't Perfect

So much can change in a year, so when this family reached out for a milestone session for their little girl, I jumped at the the opportunity to work with them again! For N's newborn shoot, we designed several float wrap pieces for their home as well as an heirloom album, but they came to me this time looking for a specific large piece they could hang over their living room couch.

After discussing style and vision, we came up with a plan to capture a breakfast picnic with scenic and rustic feel. After 1 emergency and 1 rain date cancellation, we finally managed to meet on a cloudy, cool fall morning for their session, buuuuut wouldn't you know it, little lady was not feeling well.

I mean, life's tough when you're 1!

This family's session is such a sweet reminder that all photos don't have to be wide smiles and sitting still. As I photographed them on a warm, fall evening, I was also reminded just how wonderfully unique siblings are.

Though these two sisters clearly look alike, their personalities are vastly different --the oldest was silly and outgoing, while the youngest was very soft and reserved. As our time together unfolded, I was able to witness some true family dynamics as the parents adjusted their play, their speech, even their gestures toward each child in a way that honored their differences so beautifully without even realizing it.

Featured: A Vintage Styled Fall Family Session

This mom contacted me with a very specific vision for a vintage-styled family session that was also very natural and candid for their fun and lively crew. I was SO on board from day 1 and super excited to collaborate with her vision to create something a little different but that still spoke to my approach of energy and connection! The sweeping hills and stone patios of the Boar's Head Inn was the perfect setting and Michelle did an incredible job sourcing the outfits for the perfect vintage wardrobe pieces for everyone. I mean is that pop of orange perfect or what!?
